What’s Up {Random Thoughts}

Random Thoughts for the Week:
James is sick. Again. He woke up glassy eyed with fever yesterday and again today. I’ll be calling the doctor in a few to see if we can get in today. I’m crossing my fingers that it isn’t flu, but if it isn’t I have no idea what it is. All he says is that his head and tummy hurt. Of course when the Motrin kicks in and his fever goes down he feels like a million bucks. Oh to be a kid.

Speaking of fever, does anyone have a good recommendation for a thermometer to use with kids. I’ve always used a rectal temp, but I swear I took his three times this morning and got three different readings. I KNOW he had a fever, but I have no idea what it was. How am I supposed to tell his doctor what is going on if I don’t know?

A Photo Just Because:
Well actually more than just because this week. In honor of Veteran’s day I’m posting a photo of my grandfather (my dad’s dad). He was a paratrooper and POW in WWII. He was detained at Stalag Luft VI and then Stalag Luft IV, and he was a survivor of the death march.

world war 2, veteran, holiday, family, grandfather

God bless the men and women that put their lives on the line for our country.

Stuff I Did Last Week:
Tuesday I shared some tips for helping our girls to turn “I can’t” into “I can.” Wednesday I vlogged about living through a disaster. Thursday I asked the question, “where do we go from here?” And Friday I shared the next installment of the fiction piece I’m working on with Melissa, Rock and Drool, by introducing a new character, Morgan.

Some Great Stuff I Read Last Week:
So much awesome stuff last week:

– It looks like something weird is going on with her website, but this post is fabulous, A Sad and Tragic Day. I hope you can read it if you haven’t already.

– I love Heather of the Extraordinary Ordinary, and this open letter post is just one of the reasons why. This quote right here? “I wonder if it’s because God is smart and we’re not supposed to because it comes back to shut up and just love everyone. It’s so simple and it sounds so trite, but it’s just truth.” (emphasis mine) Phenomenal, and? Dead on.

– This post from Jo Lynne lined up so well with the post I wrote on Thursday. I’m glad to see that so many of us are on the same page and are ready to move forward. It gives me hope.

– Lastly, this post from Kristen provides some reasons why I can be a Christian and a democrat.

    I’m sorry James is sick again, or is it still? Poor kiddo. I’m still trying to kick the crap that I picked up.

    We use the exergen temporal thermometer. For some raeson, on Buster’s head, it reads about .3 degrees different from the right side to the left side, but it’s pretty much dead on for me and the rest of the family. I like it because it’s so easy to use and I can quickly scan the kids while they are sleeping without waking them. If we don’t use that, we just have a Vick’s brand that I use under their arm. As long as you tell the doc how you took the temp, anything should be decent. I just always forget to change the batteries.
