Sum It Up {Random Thoughts}

Random Thoughts:
Let’s talk about the weather. I think today is the sixth day in a row it has been raining. We are under a flood advisory, obviously. After the drought and wildfires we had last year I’m VERY thankful for the rain, but at the same time I would really like to see the sun.

Also? I wish there was a way that we could box up our rain and send it to places like Colorado and the Mid-West where they really need it. I know that’s impossible, but it sure would be nice. What can I say? I’m a giver.

Stuff I Did This Week:
In addition to my normally weekly stuff like laundry and cooking I also took care of a sick kid this week. Unfortunately that is becoming an all two frequent occurrence. Cady has strep throat again. I asked her doctor why this keeps happening or if there is something I should be doing to help her stay well, but he says we are doing everything we can. He wants her on allergy meds to see if that will help her immune system not be so weak. He suggested putting her on Allegra. I did, and I guess now we will wait and see.

Tuesday I shared with y’all the story of how we chose Cady’s name. By the way, it rhymes with lady. Just in case any of you were wondering that. Tuesday I told you all about what it is like to live with a four year old. And yesterday I complained about being a grown up.

Some Great Stuff I Read:
- I loved this post Tracy (who is also one of my BlogHer roommates) wrote about her mother. It was so lovely. I wish I could sit and talk with her mom. I feel like she could heal parts of my heart.

- I pinned this post about working in Social Media written by Liz at The Six Year Itch.

- This isn’t a blog post, but I’ve been reading a ton of political stuff lately. I found this article about government spending really informative.

I’ll catch y’all on the flip side. Have a good weekend!

  1. I hope you dry out soon! It always seems like we get way more of what we don’t need all at one time. I am just glad for a tiny break from the 110′s this week! I hope the Allegra works for Cady. It is good stuff. My 15 year old had her allergy test last week and it turns out she is allergic to the world and has picked up food allergies since she was last tested. It’s crazy. She has been on weekly shots for a couple years now and it has helped her tremendously. Hope you all have a good weekend :-)

  2. Yes. Just when we thought the heat would cook the boy’s brain, it started to rain and we are going crazy not being able to get out of the house. Or we get out and get wet and go into the a/c and freeze.

Sorry she’s sick again. For her and for you.

I sort of liked playing in the rain when I was a kid. That yard looks good to me.

  3. Ugh, the sickies! We are battling it, too! So unfair!

  4. I taught a Cady once. Her forms got filled out wrong and I was expecting a boy named Cody. LOL

Hope you get a break from the rain!

  5. Well, we’re not getting rain everyday but they’re threatening us with it. And all I see is a drizzle on the way home. Then it pours for 30 minutes.

Then it’s sticky. And muggy. And arm-pitty.

Hate that sweet girl has strep again. I know you’ve got to be ready to pull your hair out with that mess.

  6. Hope you have a great weekend and that you get some fun time with James and Cady is feeling better to join in.
And how cool that you and Tracy are going to be roomies!! I can’t wait for those Instagram fun shots!!

Totally butting in here, and obviously I don’t know Cady’s medical history. BUT, if she is getting strep over and over, you might want to talk to a doctor about having her tonsils removed. If they stay chronically infected, it lowers your immune system and makes you more prone to illness. I didn’t have strep as a kid, but when I turned 29, it became my body’s illness of choice. Three years later, I had my tonsils removed (at my doctor’s recommendation)….and oh my goodness, what a difference it made. I didn’t realize just how poorly I had felt for so long…but once my immune system starting chugging again, I was amazed at how good I felt.

You can send some of that rain here to PA too. Our lawns are all brown and burnt looking because it has been so hot but hasn’t rained much. Hope you dry out soon!

  9. I hate complaining about the weather too, but I could use a break from the heat here in New England. It makes me crazy – when it is too hot to go outside here in the summer after we spend all winter cooped up!

Fingers crossed Cady starts feeling better. Making mental notes to check out those blog posts you recommended!

    Have a great weekend.

  10. I know it rained quite at bit at our house too but of course I was not there to see it… but yeah, y’all got a LOT!

I need to go read Tracy’s post. I feel so behind in my internet life this week. But oh well…

  11. I love a good thunderstorm and even some splashing in the puddles but it looks like ya’ll have had more than your fair share of rain lately.

Thanks so much for sharing the post about Tracy’s mom. I don’t know how I missed it. What an amazing woman and a wonderful idea.

  12. That rain looks annoying. I’m all for cooling off with a shower, but that’s over the top. Fingers crossed the first week of August is sunny and cool in NYC!
