I think this is a new thing I will start doing on Fridays. I will kind of sum up the week in case you missed anything you can go back and check it out. Plus it will will probably some random thoughts or fun stuff thrown in just because. I’ll also include a few posts that I found funny, moving, enlightening, etc. Feel free to link up your favorite post from the week in the comments.
Random Thoughts
A while back I saw several bloggers that were doing vlogs recording themselves saying different words and with questions that have different regional answers. I meant to do it at the time, but I never got around to it and then I forgot. This week Ali Martell posted it on her blog and I decided to give it a try as well.
If I had thought about it I would have also demonstrated for you how I pronounce “ice” and “white.” Those seem to be two words that people have trouble understanding me when I say them. Well, I guess pretty much any word with the long “i” sound is one that I tend to pronounce differently.
A photo just because:
Stuff I did this week:
- I actually had two giveaways this week, one for a $25 Subway gift card and one for a pair of Earthies shoes. If you haven’t signed up for either of those you should totally go check them out. I know I don’t do a lot of giveaways, but these two were pretty fun, and Rafflecopter made the shoe giveaway super easy. I may consider doing more in the future.
- I also told you all about Cady “cowgirling up” at her dance recital (thanks for the reminder of that phrase Maggie) and then I told you all about the really stupid thing that happened at the recital hall.
Some great posts I read this week:
- I loved this post from Suburban Snapshots about becoming less smug (and more emotional) after becoming a mom. This totally happened to me so I can relate.
- With all of the changes to Facebook, I loved this post Melissa at MomComm wrote. She cuts through the rumors and gives some really practical advice.

Okay so I love this because I have been so busy this week I totally missed a lot of stuff.
Love the vlog. Maybe I will do this with my mix of Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Rochester, NY accent.
The picture of you and Cady is one of my faves.
And I already entered your Earthshoes giveaway. Hint Hint
You should totally do the vlog. It will be fun. I love watching them.
I love that photo. We were both being silly and just having fun sitting upstairs by ourselves away from the hustle and bustle. It was a good moment.
Cute pic of the two of you. Happy Friday!
That will be one of my all time favorite photos!
We love your voice. Emma was sitting across the room and said, “Is that Jennifer?” And came over. We also collectively approved of your answers to all the questions. We live in this cultural wasteland where they call rolypolys something weird.
When the girls were small, they called Daddy Longlegs, “Buddy Longfeet” or “Betty Longfeet”.
I love it so much that they recognize my voice. Sweet girls.
Haha- see? I can’t do this, because my answers would all the same as yours. I guess I could do it from a northeast stand point since I have lived here 12 years, but it wouldn’t be what *I* call things.. just what they do. Except for “cart”…. I changed from “buggy” to “cart” a long time ago because they just had no idea what I meant. I have the same problem with “pecan”, when I orders the “pecanobon” at Cinnabon, I always got blank stares.
Here, they say, “sneakers” or “sneaks” instead of “tennis shoes”… I get looked at weird for that too, a “purse” is a wallet and what we call a purse is a “bag”. Also, grandparents are usually something like grand mom and grand pop or Mom Mom and Pop Pop. **sigh**
I love all of the regional answers. I think those are the most fun.
Oh, nooooo…no accent at all!!!
(Thank goodness you said ‘buggy’. To this day, that’s what I still call it!)
I call it a cart now because I’m trying to be fancy. True story. Also why I now call my purse a handbag.
(God I am so country.)
Love your accent. I’m from Texas too but I don’t have an accent like that.
I can totally relate to how you say some of the words though. I say them the same way and yep I always use the word, “y’all”.
Yes, this is a very East Texas accent. It mixes a little Southern in with the Texan.
LOVE that picture!
It is one of my all time favorite photos.
Wow! lol You do have a heavy accent! I was raised in N Louisiana, then moved to Beaumont at around 10. So I have a bit of both accents. With a bit of my coonass side thrown in when i’m angry lol. My little girl has a very heavy country accent. It’s so funny to hear her talk. I don’t know how her’s is so much heavier than ours, but we love it!
Ashley, Do I know you in real life? I can’t recognize it from your email address. The reason I ask is because I live in the Beaumont area too.
No you don’t, lol, i’ve been following you for awhile. I actually live in Nederland. Just one town between us! lol
Your video totally made me laugh and I realized something… you couldn’t me more Southern if you tried which means that I couldn’t me more Northern if I tried.
Pee can…. bwhahahahaha!
You are right. I am so very, very Southern.
Texan and proud!
Pee Can! I die. BTW, I say it the same as you.
I’ve seen a few of these going around and I must tell you I was surprised at all the different answers for it raining/showering while it’s sunny out. I’ve never heard it called “cause the Devil’s beating his wife.” I call it a cotton shower.
I also did one but I think I may redo it cause I didn’t have my lap top at the time and I was getting a bit of a cold or something.
Anyways, loved it!
This is really interesting, You’re a very skilled blogger. I’ve joined your rss feed and look forward to seeking more of your wonderful post. Also, I’ve shared your website in my social networks!
