People I don’t understand

Like I wrote yesterday, Cady got very sick the day of the dress rehearsal. Our recital hall is located in downtown and you have to park across the street from the hall. There is one very small loading area and we are discouraged from using it because it is reserved for the teachers and recital hall staff. Normally this is not a big deal.

The day Cady was sick I had her wait inside the back door for me since it was so hot outside. It is a pretty good walk and she wasn’t feeling well so I wanted her to wait. I went across the street, loaded up the car, and then pulled into the loading dock area.

I jumped out of the car and ran up to the back door to get her. I left my driver side door partially open because 1) I was in a hurry 2) it was going to take me a minute or less to get her and get back to the car, 3) no one is supposed to be pulling into this area, and 4) the only people that were even supposed to be at the recital hall were the teachers, parents, and dancers.

As I was walking her back to the car I noticed this HUGE SUV pulling in the small driveway (supposed to be room for two cars to park side by side). The driver was working his way (may have been a chick) around my car. I was about 10 – 15 feet from my car and it was clear they did not have the room to maneuver around my open door. This did not deter them.

Let me lay it out for you (please excuse my atrocious art skills):

all about me

Instead of stopping and waiting for me they kept pulling around. The driver hit my door and received a HUGE red scratch down the side of their brand new, black Yukon Denali. HUGE. Nothing happened to my car.

What was their hurry? Why couldn’t they wait 10 seconds for me to close the door? ONE person got out of the vehicle and went inside. She did not have a dancer or costumes or dance bags or camera bags or anything with her. One person. And this is not a handicap entrance. You actually have to walk up a very steep set of stairs to enter this way.

Also when she got out of the car she did not say anything to me. She did not even look at me. By the time she exited her vehicle I had Cady in the backseat buckling up. I was in the front seat buckled and staring in shock at the immense stupidity of the person driving the SUV. I thought, “I should get a photo of this,” and then the driver started backing up. I was scared they would actually do some serious damage to my car this time so I got out of there.

So yeah, there are some people I just don’t understand.

Comments

  1. Lack of consideration + obliviousness + obnoxiousness + entitlement = the worst combination of self-centered and ridiculous personality traits guaranteed to drive me batty too. I hope they enjoy their new red streak!

  2. Oh, sweetie, you can bet your a$$ I would have said something to that woman. No damage or not, she would have gotten an earful, and I’m NOT a confrontational person. She’s lucky it was you, and not me!

    • David couldn’t believe that I didn’t say anything, but I was just in shock. It was one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of stupid. And the noise? It was SO loud. It made this huge screeching noise. I hope it was worth saving those 10 – 15 seconds.

  3. Idiots. No other way to put it: Idiots.

I can’t tell you how many times I curse and shake my head when I’m cruising on the freeway at the posted 75 miles an hour and a friggin car changes lanes INTO MY LANE going 60 mph.

    RIGHT-FREAKING-IN-FRONT-OF-ME.

And now the entire lane I’m in comes to a halt.

I have to slow down, wait for a lane to clear, then go around.

I swear I could punch them in the neck.

  4. Well I hope her convenience was worth the nice new scratch she has on her car! I am glad it didn’t do anything to your car, though- but I can’t believe she didn’t have the courtesy to get out and make sure she didn’t hurt your car. That is arrogant with a side of entitlement.

  5. Um. Yah. I don’t get that either.

  6. So proud of Cady!!

People are so crazy. I’ve noticed more and more that people do not have any regard for person space. Be it your person, your car or your child. I’m gonna start punching folks.

  7. Some people you just gotta shake your head at.

  8. I have no words for some people.

  9. People are stupid. Especially her. Gah.

  10. Because the rules are so others can make it so that person can do whatever they want and the rest of us have to be gracious and not point out their ‘faux pas’, while compensating for their having taken convenience and time out of our lives to add to their own.

Sorry. Lost my head a little.

  11. Like the old saying goes, “You can’t fix stupid.”

Seems the world is full of them. I don’t know that I would’ve said or known what to say in that situation. All I can think is, wow just wow.

  12. I am proud of Cady, but sad for the assholery of people. I do understand though. Yesterday, after the baseball game, a huge Ford Yukon (white) almost mowed Miss M. and I down in the crosswalk in Lower Downtown Denver. Oh, sorry to delay your trip to the pubs, you jerks. But some people took their little girls to a ballgame.
