I have always loved shoes. I can remember as a little girl going to my grandmother’s after church. She would always store the heels she wore to church that day in the pantry. I guess because it was the closest closet to the kitchen and her priority was getting lunch on the table, not putting up her footwear. My cousin and I would head straight for that closet and spend the rest of the day tottering around on spindly heels.
I still remember my favorite pair. They were cream colored Nine West sandals with a swirly pattern and delicate straps. I loved those shoes. I made her promise to give them to me when she died (my grandmother was always planning for her Elizabeth moment). Alas, things got messed up and I didn’t get the shoes. But if I had gotten them I would wear them. Or at least totter around my house in them.
Heels and I don’t exactly get along. I even have a Pinterest board, “Shoes I Would Wear if I Wouldn’t Break My Neck.” Which is sad because heels are SO pretty. Recently I was given the opportunity to review a pair of Earthies, and I couldn’t help myself. I was drawn to this awesome pair of wedges. I had heard how comfortable the Earthies shoes are so I thought I would give them a try.
Holy sweet bejeezus, these shoes are FINE! This photo totally does not do them justice. (For a better photo go here.) I’ve had them for a couple of weeks, but an opportunity to wear them just would not present itself. I can’t wear open toe shoes to work (stupid professional dress policy), and our weekend activities were of the platform heel variety. Finally I just said, “screw it,” and I wore them to Cady’s dance recital last week.
Now if you are a mom that has ever had a daughter in a dance recital right now you are thinking that I had lost my ever loving mind, and I was pretty sure I had too, but darnit… go look at that photo again… FINE! and I LOVE SHOES!!
My assessemtent? They are comfortable. They were everything I had been promised. They were easy to walk in, because hello? Platforms are easier than spindly heels. But they were also really comfortable. They did not hurt my feet at all. The footbed is firm enough to support your foot, but soft enough to not hurt it. They have super arch support, and the toe box is not all pinchy. This can be an issue for me because I have wide feet, but (although they were a tad snug) they did not hurt at all and did not leave any “OMG YOUR SHOES ARE TOO TIGHT” marks on my feet. Also the slingback was tight enough to stay in place. I’ve never been a huge fan of slingbacks because I hate it when it slips, but these stayed right where they were supposed to.
Because I’m honest… I did not wear them all night. I wore them for two or three hours and when the recital pace heated up I tucked them under my seat and went barefoot (because sometimes I’m redneck like that). It was not because they were uncomfortable, but because I needed to be able to move fast and I just can’t do that in heels, platform or not. I was running up and down the stairs like a crazy woman (we had five costume changes and four of those were in the second act). The only other thing that could possibly be a problem for me is that the foot bed is made out of a soft suedey type material, which is nice, but for some reason tends to rub my feet weird. If I had worn them all night I *may* have ended up with a blister, but then I may have not, and really I think that’s just my feet.

I have a pair of sneakers from the kalso Earth line (although they’re not on the site). They are SOOOO comfortable. I’m like you… I avoid heals. There are so many pairs of shoes in the Kalso and other Earth line that I’m loving.
