I have a confession to make. I’ve always sucked at taking care of my skin (another confession, I typed sin first and had to correct it, is that considered a Freudian slip?). I was blessed with really good genes. Neither of my grandmothers ever looked their age, my mom doesn’t look her age, all of my aunts have always looked younger than they are, and most people don’t put me at 40. I’m not bragging. None of this was my doing. I just got lucky.
Sometimes I feel guilty about it. All I do is wash my face in the shower, and then slap some makeup on it before I go anywhere. I decided that this year I need to make some changes. Also I’ve started to notice a few, little lines under my eyes. I don’t now what the hell is up with that, but those things need to go.
One of my beauty resolutions for the year is to improve my skin care regimen. I know it seems a little late to be talking about resolutions, but we are still in January. I figure that you’ve got the entire month to settle on whatever it is you want to improve/change/focus on for the year. Besides, this does kind of go along with my “year of me.”
I currently use Eucerin as a body moisturizer. My skin gets really dry and itchy in the winter, and I think this is one of the best lotions on the market. It doesn’t have a strong odor and it is nice and thick. I use a cleanser, exfoliater and moisturizer on my face. With all the dry skin in the winter, I think it is really important to exfoliate the skin. My face starts to look really dull and yucky when I don’t use one.
I’ve heard that Cetaphil and St. Ives Apricot Scrub are really great products, but I’ve never tried them. I used to use Olay products all the time, but somehow I got away from them. What are your favorite beauty products to use? Why do you like them?

Oh my gosh, my skin. I think that is the thing that makes me notice my age the most.
I am all about the oil of olay products. I can’t do the fancy mall products because I just can’t get there in time, it has to be a drugstore product.
I just hate paying the fancy mall price.
Cetaphil is good and Target has a cheaper alternative; yet, sometimes, I need to feel soapy clean. The last time I used St. Ives Apricot, the chunks were really big and rough…that was ages ago.
I am out of EVERYTHING right now. Squeezing bottles…turning them upside down…a whole turning point. I think I am going for the Olay products… if not, I will be trying out some Avon.
Get yourself to the store woman!
If I want to feel soapy clean I use Dove. That’s already what I was my body with so it is right there in the shower.
I have those lines under my eyes, and even though I use eye cream, they just got worse. Guess what? I realized it’s from losing weight. I lost the weight in my face and gained wrinkles. Grr.
I use an Olay product to watch my face, but a Mary Kay moisturizer.
The lines… I thought they wouldn’t bother me, but I hate looking in the mirror and seeing those baggy lines under my eyes.
Oh I totally suck at this! I use whatever body wash is in the shower to wash my face. And when I notice my skin is dry- I have tried every fancy moisturizer I can find and they all eventually break me out- I slap a little hand lotion on it. I know. **hangs head in shame**
Man. I thought I was bad.
I love CUREL lotion. I use it on every part of my body including my face. It seriously keeps my alligator skin smooth and moist. Not moist in a sticky way but a “Oh, honey, your skin feels great.” kinda way. I am also big on exfoliating but I just use Dove soap and one of those Buff-puff sponges (although I don’t think that brand exists any more so I just buy whatever the store has.)
Good for you for sticking to your promise to take care of yourself! It’s so very important.
I’ll have to check that one out.
Gosh I think I spend way too much on skin care stuff. I have the St. Ives Apricot scrub I use 3 times a week, then I wash with Bare Minerals Nourishing Cleanser at night and use the Bare Minerals Normal to Dry moisturizer 2times a day. I also put vaseline on my eyelids in the winter (it really works!) and then use Aveno Skin Brightening Scrub after every workout, and then I use Neutrogena oil free face lotion after workouts. I end up washing my face 2times a day with different products each time. And then I also put more money into my makeup which I get at Sephora. I don’t know, my mom looks incredible at 57 and she was never one to skimp on a beauty routine so I figure if I do it when you’re young you can stick with it!
That is in intense skin care regimen. I know that I would never be able to keep up with that, but I want to do better than I’m doing now.
I use tons of crap. I have oily skin so it does help with the wrinkles. I can proudly say at 37 I have hardly any! (and NO i don’t do botox)..(although I would)….. I use moisturizer by Mary Kay night and day and I also use their vitamin C serum. I am not sure if it works my neighbor sells it and she is like the world’s best salesperson. Plus she is like 60 and looks amazing!
I have tried the apricot scrub and really like it. You have me thinking about buying more it.
I’m definitely going to have get some.
I use all kinds of stuff….but I really like the No. 7 line at Target. And it’s not expensive at all!
I’ll have to check on that one. I read somewhere that they have really good makeup remover wipes. I need something easy like that to use at night.
Don’t feel bad. I take pretty darn good care of my “sin” so there you go.
And my skin, too. I’m kind of a freak about it.
Walgreens is my favorite place on earth. Especially when they put out those little tags that I drag aisle by aisle gazing over.
That’s why you look so hot. If I don’t start doing something soon I’m going to be looking not so hot.
Heh, a Freudian slip we’ve all made I’m sure.
