Talkin’ Turkey, Weight Watchers Week 7 and 8

by Jennifer on December 1, 2011

I know I didn’t update last week, but it was because of Thanksgiving and not because I didn’t have a good week.

In Week 6 I mentioned that I hurt my back. Unfortunately I that means I have not been doing any exercise. You know how they say the hardest step is the one out the front door? Well that is totally true. Every day I have good intentions, but something seems to happen. First it was the back, and now it is my mouth.

Monday I had a dentist appointment that ended up causing a lot of pain. Then the antibiotics the dentist put me on made me really nauseous. I called today to change the prescription, and he told me that I could just stop taking it. I guess we’ll have to see how that goes.

So on to the stats. Week seven I lost one pound, which put me over my 5% goal. Week eight I lost .4 of a pound. Yes. You read that right. I lost weight over Thanksgiving week. I’m still not sure how I did that. I will be the first to admit that I did not do fantastic, and I did not even stick to my original goals. I did try to remain of aware of what I was eating and I guess it paid off.

To sum it up I’m not at all where I wanted to be at the end of week 8 with “only” a 12.8 pound loss, but when I put it in perspective I realize that I’ve lost an entire turkey (our turkeys were actually about eleven pounds). I don’t know if you know this or not, but turkeys are heavy and that’s good enough for me.

Week 7 Loss: 1 pound
Week 8 Loss: .4 pound
Total Loss: 12.8 pounds

…and that 12 pounds takes up quite a bit of space. Can you feel a difference? Did your WW leader flip out when she saw you lost over T’giving? Congratulations! You are doing great!!!

Jennifer December 1, 2011 at 8:54 am

No one really flipped out. I just got a big congratulations. I didn’t realize how much 12 pounds was until we bought those turkeys. Then I was like, “hey, that’s a lot of weight!”

I was all ready to offer encouraging words and then you made me laugh and I realized you might not need them! That’s great and I LOvE your perspective!

I will offer this: slow and steady really does win out. I’ve mentioned before I’m a perpetual WW drop out. I gained a pound at Thanksgiving (although I suspect that with the kids being gone, the break up and hosting the 40th bday for a friend, it may have been water retention from all the wine :) ) Anywho, I stepped on the scale yesterday and I am .5 from my goal…w hich to me is as good as there! I started last January… it’s taken almost a year, with a lot of ups and downs, but I’ve lost 20 pounds!

I totally think that is as good as there. Plus? You’ve lost one of those great big turkeys!

Carrie December 1, 2011 at 6:51 am

Damn. You can certainly tell in that pic you are losing. You look fantastic!

You and Maren are doing so great. I have GOT to get back in it like I was. I’m doing like you though and finding excuse after excuse.

Though, really…a busted up mouth and a jacked back ain’t really an excuse.

However, getting my nails done or having to pee, is.

I really gotta get on it.

Carrie December 1, 2011 at 6:57 am

Wait.

To clear up that mass confusion I just blew out my pie hole…your reasons aren’t “excuses” and are quite legitimate reasons to slow up on the workout.

Mine? Total lame ass excuses.

There IS a difference.

Jennifer December 1, 2011 at 8:56 am

I got what you were meaning.

Jennifer December 1, 2011 at 8:55 am

Excuses are excuses. I’m once again planning on doing something tonight. We shall see tomorrow.

Making It Work Mom December 1, 2011 at 6:52 am

I can’t believe you have lost over 12 lbs in 8 weeks. I really think that is so awesome. And the turkey really does give it some perspective, huh?

Jennifer December 1, 2011 at 8:56 am

It totally gave me perspective. I guess whenever I get down about how much I’ve lost I’ll find a way to put it into perspective.

Jennifer December 1, 2011 at 8:08 am

Congratulations! And yes, turkeys ARE heavy! Way to keep it in perspective!

Jennifer December 1, 2011 at 8:57 am

I’m trying. Anything to keep me motivated. Even if that is poultry.

Losing a turkey is amazing!!

I always think about weight loss in terms of a bowling ball. Think about how heavy a 10 lb bowling ball is…and realize you lost more than that. It just amazes me to think that when you hit that ten pound mark, something like a bowling ball came off of your body. It’s mind boggling.

Jennifer December 1, 2011 at 8:57 am

Truly it is. Plus I saw this photo of actual fat (gross) on Pinterest the other day. Five pounds of fat takes up a lot more space than you think. No wonder the butt of all my pants is getting baggy.

Jen December 1, 2011 at 10:20 am

You are doing awesome!

Jennifer December 1, 2011 at 11:44 am

Thanks. I’m trying.

Losing ANY weight over Thanksgiving is a big deal, girl!! And isn’t it SO crazy to hold that turkey and realize you’ve left behind that much weight?! Wow! You’re doing fabulous, my friend!

Jennifer December 1, 2011 at 11:45 am

I thought the same thing, but it provides a really good visual.

A loss is a loss, no matter how small! So proud of you for continuing to work at this. It would be so easy for you to just give up since you can’t exercise, but you are sticking with it. So awesome.

Kristen December 1, 2011 at 10:05 pm

That was a great way to put your weight loss into perspective! I think that’s pretty amazing. I carried our turkey up from my brother’s fridge and it was 12 lbs and it was heavy! Even with your setbacks that has got to feel pretty darn good! I say you paint your nails a fun, festive color for the holiday season as a treat…you deserve it!!

Connie Weiss December 1, 2011 at 10:10 pm

Awesome! You lost a turkey!
