3 Things I Like About Weight Watchers, Week 9

by Jennifer on December 8, 2011

I just completed my ninth week of Weight Watchers, and now I think I have enough experience to discuss some of the things I like about the program.

1. Good Healthy Guidelines – If you read the program book, go to a meeting, or go to the online message boards the thing you will hear is that you need to follow the “good healthy guidelines.” Weight Watchers has a team of nutritionist that monitor the program to ensure that it is healthy. They update the program on an annual basis to ensure that participants are losing weight in a healthy manner, and that you are developing habits to last a lifetime.

2. Works with your lifestyle – You are encouraged to fit the program into your lifestyle, and not to adjust your lifestyle to the program… except for learning healthy eating habits. They want the program to work and are smart enough to know that if it isn’t flexible then it won’t. You are given daily points that you are supposed to use every day and weekly points that you can use if you need, either every day or for a special event (Hello holidays!). You can also earn extra points by exercising.

3. It’s easy – The instructions are clear, and the program is easy to follow. Tracking is available online, on your smart phone, or you can do it manually. You can get support via meetings or online through eTools. They have seriously made it so easy that the only weakness in the plan is me. I know that if I fail it is because I did it, and there is no way I can blame it on the program.

I lost another 1.6 pounds this week. I guess I’m not failing yet.

Week 9 Loss: 1.6 pounds
Total Loss: 14.4 pounds

You are doing so, so good.

I did WW about 10 years ago and it was easy then. I can only imagine now. I lost about 25 lbs and have put about 15 of it back on.

I think you have convinced me to try it again after the first of the year to kickstart me. I’d be ecstatic over just 10 lbs. Ecstatic.

I eat fairly healthy, just can’t make myself walk/run like I used to. This weather is either 116* or 30* and I just can’t do it in that stuff. I think I’d be a little more conscious of my calories and intake with WW.

I really like the program. I don’t even mind going to the meetings like I have in the past. It is like a charge up for the week ahead.

Way to go! You are losing during the hardest time of the year to do such a thing! As I read this I was thinking it shows what a strong person you are and how dedicated you are to doing this by starting it when you did and not pushing it off and saying, “I’ll make it my New Year’s resolution.” You should be proud of yourself! Congrats!

I think if you really want to do it then it shouldn’t matter what time of year it is. When Jodi lost weight she started in November. Is it hard? Yes, but so is being overweight.

You are doing so awesome. I’m really proud of you.

I’ve been at a stand still, but not trying very hard. I guess it’s good that I’m maintaining and not gaining.

Jennifer December 8, 2011 at 8:37 am

I think maintaining is good, and a really good way to get through this time of year.

1.6 in a week? Fan-fracking-tastic!!!

I agree about all your reasons…whenever I watch the BL, I see these people who feel like they have to workout hours and hours a day. WW is about shaping a different lifestyle than what we have slipped into that allows weight to creep on. SO we can workout once a day or five times a week or two and just not put the calories in our mouths in the first place. And end up at a healthy weight and be happy and not make a taco into a sin.

Jennifer December 8, 2011 at 8:38 am

“Not make a taco a sin.” EXACTLY! Sometimes I’ll think I want something, but then that I shouldn’t have it. WW allows me to plan what I want into my day or week so that I don’t feel deprived. I’ve had tacos, pizza and pumpkin pie all while losing.

That is awesome!!! So happy for you! I am starting WW after still paying but not going/tracking for 6 months. I look forward to hearing more about your experiences!

Yipee!! I am so happy that weight watchers is working for you.

Karen December 8, 2011 at 10:45 pm

Yay for you!! Now if I could just get back there; hopefully next week. At least I haven’t gained since my last meeting. I think I have even lost a few pounds.

Yay, keep going, girl!

Great job! I had quite a bit of success with WW post-partum, it’s a really good program and there are TONS of great recipes out there. My failing was that it only applied to ME – Paul refused to participate, so I was always cooking separately. Which was fine when I was on mat leave, but it’s a lot harder when I’m working full-time and X is no longer a baby.

Jennifer December 9, 2011 at 11:01 pm

Great job!! I love WW. I lost all of my baby weight after Noah on WW and maintained it for a year before getting pregnant with Zoe. And you are right.. I know it worked for me before and if it is not working for me now, it is ME and not the program!
