I signed up for Weight Watchers yesterday.
I just felt your collective eye roll.
I know we’ve been through this before. I know I’ve tried to lose weight so many times that I can’t even remember. I know this time may end like all of the times before. But I have to do something.
The other day I heard about Dr. Oz’s Transformation Nation initiative. I don’t remember where. I had been thinking about Weight Watchers for awhile and had even checked their website multiple times to see what times they had meetings. Still I just couldn’t make myself take that first step.
Then yesterday morning Jodi sent me a link to the website for the program. (This chick will just NOT give up on me.) I clicked over to check it out, and since it was free to sign up, I did. I took all of the quizzes and learned that I am “dangerously unhealthy,” which I already knew, but it totally sucks to see it in print.
I admitted to Jodi that I had checked out the Weight Watchers website and had been thinking about going, and then I told her that the meeting at noon on Wednesdays was the one I would want to attend. Of course she then urged me to go. So I did.
I went in. I signed up. I weighed. I barfed. That last one was a lie. I got my program materials. I attended the meeting. I read over everything. I went to the grocery store and bought five pounds of apples. What? Apples are zero points.
Well… okay… maybe not quite five pounds.
I’m ready to kick everything off tomorrow. Logging food, checking the point quantities a bazillion times, trying to find recipes on the website, obsessing.
Wish me luck. Again.

There was no eyeroll here! I’m so excited for you, congrats on getting on track! I’ve been on a weight loss journey for the past eight months too, with ups and downs. The main thing is that we’re still on it, and still striving to make those numbers on the scale decrease! You can *do* it!!!
Believe in yourself, I know I do.
Don’t stop believin’… hold onto that feelin’
Sorry. I got distracted.
I am so happy for you! Dieting is definitely a tough thing, but always remember when you are dieting the scale can only go down. I know in the days before getting on the dieting path it only depressed me knowing the scale was only moving up, and now I am so comforted by the downward trek.
You can do this! Try to make a month long commitment. After a month take a step back and ask yourself how you feel, how do you like WW, and can you do another month. Soon you will be three months in, and then four, and then six and suddenly it is just a part of your life. The things that used to tempt you don’t and you find that determination you always sought.
I am here for you! Go Jen!
Quit posting freaking donuts to Pinterest!
No eye roll! Just sending lots of good vibes your way that this is a program that fits your needs. I can’t wait to hear the behind the scenes scoop at WW
Oh I’m sure there will be some stories. There are some weird people there to be sure. But a lot of really nice people too.
On my feet cheering you on. I know you can do it, too.
I know you are a big WW fan. I’ll probably have to call on you for advice.
Much luck to you. I know you can do this. Everyone just has to find what works for them. WW is not what what works for me, but I’ve found my thing, and I’m doing it.
Let’s motivate each other, okay?
I do think there is something for everyone. I like this is really flexible, but I’m worried that I might use that to my (dis)advantage. If you know what I mean?
I am proud of you for trying again. I know you can do this. I know you are worth it! I will keep pushing you because thats what I feel I am supposed to do. Just like when you make me stop crying about Sammy and be his mother no matter what. You save me from myself all the time…and I will do it for you too…whether you like it or not!
Congratualations. Saying a prayer your first week will be easy. I received my key 23 years ago but… Ha!
That’s awesome! I was telling a friend today I wonder what it would be like to have been on the plan in the 80′s compared to how it is today (the leader of our group started in ’87).
I am part of a weight loss program with a woman who previously worked for WW for 10 years. She says do not eat the fruit/sugar for breakfast. Pretty much just protein before lunch; it makes your body work harder to burn it off, so you will lose more, and you’ll have more energy. Stay away from bananas, grapes, etc.: thick-skinned sweet fruits. Also, no matter what drink your 8 glasses of water! Even when I cheat on the diet, I still lose. I lost 4 lbs. last week just by getting back on the water!
Those are some pretty good tips.
Good Luck!!! Hubby and I did it for a while (he’s still doing it) and it totally works. Best thing ever is you can eat what you want, you just have to account for it and most importantly pay attention to portion size. Eat slowly and eat lots of fruits and veggies. Get rid of all white products and replace with whole wheat. After a short amount of time, you will prefer the taste and they are more filling and higher in fiber. Try to avoid the processed WW foods (full of fake sugar or real sugar)….eat natural foods such as nuts, fruit, veggies, meat, etc. Also, remember to exercise some everyday. Walking is the best if you have a friend to gab with. No expensive gyms and intimidating machines!
I do love how you can eat whatever you want. I just hope that I don’t try to take advantage of that fact and screw myself up.
I have multiple thanks to give you:
1) for commenting on my scarymommy guest post. I was scared of getting a collective yawn
2) for having a great blog that I can now follow
3) for joining WW so maybe I can find some motivation from you. The plan’s great, but I’m on extended plateau of mediocrity. Going for third “lifetime” but first time doing as lifestyle instead of diet.
Are you kidding? That post was great. I was laughing through the entire thing. So 1) you’re welcome, 2), no, thank you and 3) it should be good for a couple of laughs.
Good Luck Jennifer!!
Thanks. I need all the luck I can get.
Every effort is one step closer. I’ll be cheering you on. You can do this!
I’m glad that I have such great cheerleaders.
Lots of luck to you! My sil has done WW over the past several months and has lost over 30 pounds. Hubs wants to try it.
That’s awesome, and some pretty great inspiration!
My dear, YOU will do fabulous. You will look up one day and say “where is my ass??”
I kid you not. WW is the bomb. A definite great start.
August 2010, I started making myself walk 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes each time. Then I made myself cut out all sodas and all fast-food. Except Subway and Chik-Fil-A. You can get lots there for few calories.
I started watching my calories and keeping them under 1800 each day. With the walking (which got to be more and more since I started becoming addicted to it), the new-food enjoying…20 lbs fell off and I freaked.
Don’t concentrate on what you’re eating, concentrate on what you’re doing. It will forever be a struggle for me and there are days I HATE to think of having to walk. But once I do it…I’m the bomb! I’ve been really lax on it lately, but kicking it into high gear this week. Back to the grindstone.
I’m so proud of you and so happy. I personally think you’re beautiful just the way you are right now. Your giggle and your smile is amazingly refreshing. But 20 lbs from now, DAMN!
=)
Hang in there, Tutz…I’m right beside you!
I’m giving it a whirl. I think two other friends are going to join and start going to the meetings with me. I haven’t decided if it is really because they want to do WW or if they just want to make sure that I stick with it this time.
No eyeroll–good luck! I actually love their plan, how you can eat as many veggies and fruits as you want. And I’m your 400th follower–woo-hoo!
Well thank you so much for helping me break that 400 marker! Woohoo.
I love that the fruits and veggies are “free”, or as my meeting leader kept saying “0 points value.”
