This week’s featured blogger is Kristen from The Preppy Girl in Pink. She is almost a brand new blogger being that she just started in August so give her lots of love. She first linked up a couple of weeks ago and I loved her post about coaching her daughter’s field hockey team. If you didn’t get a chance to read it you should be sure to check it out. But first let’s get to know her a little bit better.
1. What do you love the most about coaching your daughter’s field hockey team?
The thing I love most about head coaching my oldest daughter’s team is sharing my love of the game with all of the girls and using that love to get them to care about how they perform as a team and individually. I have seen every one of those eleven girls (including my own) improve tremendously. They come off of the field knowing that they played a good game. I can see it in their faces and that warms my heart!
2. Your post from 10/6, is that a real dog? What kind of dog is that?
Yes, Jamaica is a real dog 😉 She is a Hungarian Puli. I actually dedicated a whole post to her. She is the best! She just turned 12 at the end of September. My girls call her their big sister 🙂
3. You recently went from being a work outside the home mom to a stay at home mom? What has been the biggest advantage and disadvantage?
The biggest advantage was an immediate decrease of stress in our home. My job carried a lot of responsibility and it went from creeping into our family life to almost taking it over. (My own doing really. I tend to be an overachiever…always looking for that A+ to hang on the fridge.) With the weight of all of it off of my shoulders, my husband and I stopped arguing (for the most part, I still can’t get him to put his clothes in the hamper!), the girls were easier to deal with because I wasn’t maxed out and our social calendar started to fill up. (We always had to say no because we never had the time to do anything.) Life is GOOD!
The biggest disadvantage is losing my income. Seriously, I am working off of an excel spreadsheet where I mark every cent we spend. It is so worth it though! I am less stressed and feel like my old self again. I’m not snapping at people and I am laughing again…A LOT!
4. If you could plan a totally fun adventure day for your family, what would it be?
That one is easy for my family! We would drive over to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park in VA. and hike Old Rag Mountain. You have to get there early enough in the morning because it is a pretty good hike without the girls but with them it adds a bit of time. It is about 7 miles long and takes you up to 3,291 feet. The trail includes a directed path that includes rock scramble and some minor rock climbing (no gear needed but it is serious business with your hands & feet). The girls needed our help until this summer when I think they were actually better at the rock climbing than Chris and I. We pack healthy snacks, lots of water and make sure we take plenty of quick breaks. We sing camp & school songs along the way and we just take the time to enjoy each other with beautiful scenary all around us.
5. What is your favorite post from the last three months?
Wow! That is a hard one! I have actually only been blogging since August 19th. I wanted to find something for myself that didn’t take away from my family and may possibly add to it. My happiness from writing has definitely added to it and it is wonderful to have so many things written down. The only thing… I am still not very comfortable with my writing. I feel like I have A LOT to improve on. Okay…l et me get to it… decision time… I guess I would go with my post on September 13th, “One Tired, Happy Mommy“. I think it is my favorite because I really did go to bed happy & satisfied that night. The love I felt for my girls as I wrote that post was overwhelming. I could still feel it when I just read it now. Funny thing is…I didn’t receive one comment on it!
Now it is your turn to link up and share your awesome from a chance to be featured next week. BUT your post really doesn’t have to be awesome (in your opinion). It can be any post that you wrote this week. JUST LINK UP! Please. Here are the rules for linking up:
- Link up a favorite post you wrote this week.
- On the post you feature link back to my blog. Something like, “I’m sharing my awesome with Momma Made It Look Easy and you can too.” It can be in the tiniest print at the very bottom of your post. Or you can grab my “Share Your Awesome” button from the sidebar and use that.
- Link directly to your blog post and not your home page or a landing page. If you don’t know how to find the permalink just let me know and I’ll help you.
Next week I will randomly pick one participant (that hasn’t previously been featured) to feature on my blog. Please follow all of the rules. I will delete you if you don’t. And while it isn’t a requirement, it would be really great if you would check out some of the other blogs that link up, and also, comments are always great. The posts so far have been awesome and I’m sure they will be this week too.
Please share that you are linking up on Facebook and Twitter so that we will have plenty of people join in. I will try to share all of your posts.
