The boy pictured right here… to the left, Dalton. He’s a smart boy. You can see in the photo that he made A-B Honor Roll last year in school. Today? He can’t remember what grade he is when or how to spell his name.
How did this happen you ask? How could he go from being an A-B student to not knowing how to spell his name? Well, it is so simple… and not so simple. This past weekend Dalton was riding on the back of a four wheeler with his friend while visiting his dad. The driver swerved (we’re not completely clear on all of the details) and Dalton fell off the back of the four wheeler. He was not wearing a helmet.
He is currently suffering from a skull fracture, a serious concussion, a bruised lung, memory loss, agitation, problems seeing from one eye, and a LOT of pain. Way more than a boy his age (11 in October) should be feeling. As bad as all of this is it could be so, so much worse. We all know that.
If you are friends with me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter you may have seen me requesting prayer and providing you with updates. I completely believe that if prayers had not started for him on Saturday night right after the accident that he would be in a lot worse condition right now.
That said… he needs more prayer. A lot more. He was released from ICU to a regular room on Monday, and may be released from the hospital this week, but he has so much farther to go. He is still not completely out of the woods, and his parents are not completely confident in the medical care he is receiving at this point, but their insurance company will not let him be moved until the hospital releases him.
Please, please, please say a prayer for Dalton and his family. Please pray for his continued improvement, that he regains his memory, that his fracture heals completely, that the bruise on his lung heals to make his breathing easier, and that his pain improves. Also please say a prayer for his doctors and nurses and that he receive the quality medical care he needs.
I don’t ask this a lot, but please share this post. Please contact all of your friends that pray. Please add his name to your prayer list at church. I would love to know that we have a prayer chain for him spread across the entire country.
Also, PLEASE make sure that your children ALWAYS wear a helmet.
PS Dalton is my cousin’s son… so my cousin too.
