Last week was The Jammie Girl‘s first time to link up and she is being featured this week. See how easy that was? Also? I’m really glad to have someone to feature this week because that is the best part of doing this. Let’s get to her Q&A so we can learn more about her.
1) Why did you start blogging?
Like many bloggers, I started my blog (originally named “Ballard Boys”) as a way to share pictures and stories about my children with family members who didn’t live close-by. As I gradually found new blogs to follow and bloggers to chat with I quickly realized that I wanted my blog to be SO much more than what it was. After attending my first blog conference several months later I decided to re-brand, and change the name of my blog to “The Jammie Girl”. At the same time I hired a designer to switch me from Blogger to WordPress and to come up with visuals that would better represent me.
2) It seems like you blog about a little bit of everything (like me), what do you think is the hardest thing about not having a niche?
You’re right, I really don’t have a “niche”, and I like it that way. I’m free to share recipes, parenting experiences, crafts, bits of creative writing, frugal tips, or whatever strikes my fancy on a particular day.
I love the freedom that being “nicheless” provides.
3) I know you have one son at college, what about the others?
My husband and I have two sons and two ridiculously spoiled dogs. Our eldest son, Aaron, is nineteen and a sophomore at a college about two hours away from home. Our youngest, John, is twelve and is starting seventh grade today. The dogs are currently sleeping in with their heads on orthopedic pillows and their furry bodies sprawled on high thread count sheets.
4) I read in your about me page that you work, what do you do? Do you love it?
I am a cardiology nurse. I’ve been in the same field ever since I graduated from college twenty-three years ago, and I’ve worked for the same group of cardiologists for the past nineteen years, getting up at 3 a.m. every morning to start hospital rounds. Unfortunately, just a few months ago I had my fourth surgery within just over two years on my cervical spine, and due to complications and continued pain I wasn’t able to return to work in a timely fashion and lost my job. 🙁 I don’t blog a lot about the pain, but I do touch on it occasionally since it’s such a big part of my life right now. In an attempt to stay positive about not being able to return to the profession that I love right now I’m focusing on my secondary profession, creative writing. I have written one Contemporary Women’s Fiction novel and am searching for the right publisher while working on my second. I am also putting the finishing touches on an ebook that I hope to have on the market within the next month, Tight Budget, Tiny Kitchen, and No Time: Eating Well in Your First Apartment. Yep, you guessed it, Aaron wants to live off-campus next year 🙂
Wow. Way to bounce back and focus on doing what you love.
5) Favorite post from the last three months. Yep, just one.
Here’s my favorite post from the past three months. It wasn’t as hard to choose as I thought, because this one still makes me smile every time I read it, What’s Not On My Resume.
That is a hilarious post about first time jobs. I worked as a grocery store cashier when I was in high school. It was a pretty cool job because the hours weren’t too bad, and most people that came in were nice, but every once in awhile…
Now it is time to Share Your Awesome for a chance to be featured next week. Here are the rules for linking up:
- Link up a favorite post you wrote this week.
- On the post you feature link back to my blog. Something like, “I’m sharing my awesome with Momma Made It Look Easy and you can too.” It can be in the tiniest print at the very bottom of your post. Or you can grab my “Share Your Awesome” button from the sidebar and use that.
- Link directly to your blog post and not your home page or a landing page. If you don’t know how to find the permalink just let me know and I’ll help you.
Next week I will randomly pick one participant (that hasn’t previously been featured) to feature on my blog. Please follow all of the rules. I will delete you if you don’t. And while it isn’t a requirement, it would be really great if you would check out some of the other blogs that link up, and also, comments are always great. The posts so far have been awesome and I’m sure they will be this week too.
I will share links on Twitter and Facebook for everyone that links up. Please share that you are linking up on Facebook and Twitter so that we will have plenty of people join in.
