Read any good books lately

I love to read. Like love LOVE. I always have. I know I come by it honestly. I can remember curling up on the couch next to my Dad when he would be when I was small. He always had something he was . My Mom loves to read too and she read to me all the time when I was little. And from as far back as I can remember I’ve always loved to read.

Since Baby Girl was born I haven’t been able to give into the habit as much as I like. One because it is a total time suck for me and two because it can end up costing a lot of money. I know I should go to the library, but I just never have time.

For Christmas David got me my favorite gift of all time:

Nook Color
My precious…

I love it like a child. Since I opened it I’ve downloaded and read eight books. (And as an aside, I have two paperback books that I’m currently reading and at least two waiting in the wings to be read.) I’m not even sure how I’ve managed to read that many books. I pick up my new baby and time just fades away. It is just me and her.

I’m trying to control myself and not download any more books for awhile. It can get really, really expensive. But one of the things I love about the Nook Color (at least I think I’ll love it) is that it has a “Lend Me” feature which allows you to friend other users and “borrow” books that they have downloaded. The only problem is that I don’t know anyone else with a Nook. If you have one and would like to friend me (and know how to do it), let me know. I promise I’ll love you forever.

And if you don’t have a Nook and just know of a really great book I should read let me know that too.

P.S. Last night when I proofread this I had about a zillion typos.  I must be really tired.  So if I missed any please excuse my poor grammar and bad spelling.  Thank you.

  1. I don't have one, but I would recommend reading the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. There are 3 books in the series, and they are so good they just fly by. Awesome fiction.

Another book I really didn't expect to enjoy but did is: Choice: True Stories of Birth, Contraception, Infertility, Adoption, Single Parenthood & Abortion. It is a book of essays from all sorts of perspectives. I was afraid it would make me sad, but I really enjoyed it.

    Happy Reading!

  2. I do have a nook, but unfortunetely my husband isn't as fabulous as yours and I just have the black and white one, lol. That being said I love love love mine also. I don't know how to "lend" yet and I don't know if a black and white nook can trade with the nook color. I guess I'll look into it. It can be soooo expensive. I was downloading like crazy the other day as I was looking through the free books. I wasn't paying close attention cause they were free and I was so excited. I accidentally downloaded what they call an "african american erotica" novel hahaha I couldn't get through the first chapter taking turns blushing and laughing…
What kind of books do you read?

  3. Fun! My sister-in-law has a Kindle and she absolutely loves it. I don't find much time to read, so while I'm sure I'd love them both, I probably wouldn't get much use out of them.

  4. I love my iBook…but I can't afford the books all the time. I buy one every other month.

    And I don't know anyone with a Nook…sorry.

I have several books that I've downloaded a sample of so that I can remember which one's I want to read.

The next book I'm going to buy is LIFT by Kelly Corrigan.

  5. The White Queen by Philippa Gregory is great. Moonlight Mile by Dennis Lehane is great too, but you need to read Gone, Baby, Gone first.

I used to use paperbackswap.com to trade books, but I stopped because I don't really have room to keep books around waiting for someone to want them. So I use the library.

I have no reader, can't help there. Good luck!

  6. Wish we could share with each other- I have a kindle. I did my list of keepers and stinkers last Thursday.

So addicted to an ereader, though I'm trying to stick to the free options!

Good for you for getting back to reading. I hope to someday too but right now it's just not on my priority list. The Nook looks' really cool though, I have to say!!

  8. BlondeMomBlog (Jamie) says:

Oh oh OH! Jealous! I would love a Nook. I tried the Sony reader but it was B&W and I just didn't like it.

I agree that Philippa Gregory The White Queen is great (as is The Red Queen.) I also recently read The Help. I love to put books on hold at our local library. A lot of times I'll check out the suggestions on Amazon for a book I really liked.

No nook here, sorry! I have some for the ipad though, but haven't read them yet, still stuck in my paper ones!

  10. I have a B&W Nook, I don't know if that one can lend – I just got it and haven't really had time to play around with it yet. I love swapping books, but I don't know how it works. LOL

My Mom has a Kindle and LOVES it! I was thinking of getting one but then I read an article about how our kids will not read paperbooks because the e-book is taking over. I found it really sad and decided to stick with my paper ones for now!
Also my 6 year old daughter is REALLY into reading right now and I want to encourage her to use her school's library.
I did just read an awesome book called "Heaven is for Real." I read it all in one sitting (about 3 hours) because I just could not put it down. One word of warning-tissues!
Let me know if you read it, what you think!

  12. I have a kindle! And a horrible addiction to books that I have had since I learned to read!! So sad beause I would love to exchange books with you! I love my Kindle, though. I have had it for almost a year and it is just like reading a paperback. When I am really tired or really into the book I often find myself making the page turning motion!
I also love the Hunger Games series, so not my normal kind of books, but I love them.
I also loved the new John Grisham, The Confession.

I have one more recommendation, but I can't remember the title (a really bad habit of mine) and my Kindle is upstairs (too lazy to get it!). I will have to get back to you.
    Happy Reading!!!

I want one so badly!! My birthday is coming up. Maybe if I beg and beg and beg. Do you like it better than reading actual paper books?

  14. commonplacelife says:

I just realized that for what I pay in library fines, I could buy books for the Nook I hope someday to afford.

  15. Awww.. congratulations! I have a Kindle. I don't know anyone with a Nook.

  16. Texan Mama @ Who Put Me In Charge says:

I think my SIL has a NOok color but you don't know her…

I can barely read a completely funny chick lit novel in less than a month. I am a SLOOOWWWW reader, so the Nook would not be a good gift for me. Plus I loves me the library. Although, I know our library lets us check out Kindle Books for free… you should check out your library and see if they have nook books for free!
