One of the hardest things about being on a diet is learning how to make it work with your life. Let’s face it, if it isn’t convenient then I’m going to be a lot less likely to keep up with it.
One of the challenges I’m facing this time is that we do not have a refrigerator or a microwave at our office. Here are some of the things I’ve done to get around it. First I purchased a soft side ice chest from Walmart like this one:
I pack my water, a couple of diet cokes and anything else that needs to remain cold inside with a cold pack. Another good thing about this is that it forces me to plan everything out in the morning so I do not have any decisions to make during the day. I just pull the right meal out of the cooler and eat.
Another thing that I use a lot is this salad container that I bought at Target:
This container has an ice pack in the lid that keeps the greens fresh until it is time to eat and a container in the lid for your salad dressing. When it is time to eat you just open the dressing container and it empties on the greens. Then I mix it all up and add some chicken or shrimp.
The last thing I want to mention in this post that helps make it work is a successful, experienced diet buddy. My friend Jodi has already lost over 100 pounds and we are following a similar plan. She knows where I’ve been, where I am and where I’m going. We talk about our challenges during the day and encourage each other. It makes all of it so much more bearable to know that I’m not alone.
What are some of your tips for successful weight loss?

Love your salad container. I make salad for hubby to take to work everyday so will check into. I count calores when I really want to lose…don't buy anything "bad". If I'm dying for an ice cream I go get a cone at McD for 150 calories. Little tricks like that work.
Look at you! Being organized and sticking to it are the two hardest things. I think it's great that you have a buddy you can go to for support!
I stop thinking about what I "want" for dinner. What sounds good? What do I feel like cooking?
Just put some chicken in the oven and some vegetables in the steamer and eat it so you won't be hungry.
As soon as I feel a hunger pain, I chug some cold water.
I really like your ideas.
Neat containers! I believe the most important way to lose the weight and get healthier, is to be consistent! And I for one, struggle with this, LOL!
Following you here from over at BlogFrog…looking forward to visiting often : )
I am not sure, but I think people shouldn't buy cookies because they might eat 3 or 4 every time their children make them mad which might run into 12 or 14 cookies a day.
Stopping my from SITS! I just got back to work after my maternity leave and this getting ready and out the door with the carseat, breast pump, change of clothes to work out, etc business is a serious hassle. AND I have to remember a lunch?!
I'll get it eventually… but sheesh!
You're doing great. WAY better than I would be doing. Keep it up!!!
I also bring my lunch everyday. I bring just about the same thing everyday with two variations. And even though that sounds boring it really isn't. I know how many calories it is and it just makes sense.
Plus I am not stumped the night before on what to make for lunch!
I do get some comments when every one else is ordering out about how boring I am – but that is okay!
